Ipad, Tablet Apple Resmi Diluncurkan

SAN FRANCISCO, KAMIS - Kabar kehadiran tablet besutan Apple sudah beredar sejak awal bulan. Hari ini, Apple resmi meluncurkan produk yang dinamai iPad tersebut. Fisiknya mirip iPhone, tetapi dalam ukuran jauh lebih besar (dan tanpa kemampuan telefoni tentunya).

Mirip tablet lain, iPad adalah papan sketsa canggih, dengan layar sentuh IPS 9,7” dan tanpa keyboard. Perangkat berbobot 685 gram dengan ketebalan sekitar 1,27cm ini jalan di atas prosesor Apple A4 1GHz. Chip yang sama juga bertanggung jawab menjalankan semua proses grafis di perangkat iPad.

iPad datang lengkap dengan sebuah speaker dan mikropon built-in, fitur Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 2.1, accelerometer, kompas dan docking port standar Apple. Baterai perangkat ini ditanam, dan tidak bisa dikeluarkan. Menurut Apple, baterai tersebut mampu bekerja selama 10 jam, dan bisa siaga selama satu bulan sebelum perlu diisi ulang.

Dalam perangkat ini terpasang beberapa aplikasi standar Apple - Safari, Mail, Photos, Ipod, Itunes, Contacts, Notes, Maps, Youtube, dan aplikasi kalender. O ya, sebuah slot micro SIM untuk data 3G juga terkandung dalam iPad.

iPad dengan fitur Wi-Fi-only disebutkan akan tersedia di pasar AS dalam waktu dua bulan. Versi 3G-nya akan menyusul 30 hari kemudian.

iPad tersedia dalam beberapa variasi: model basic Wi-Fi-only 16GB yang dijual US$ 499, atau US$ 599 untuk 32GB dan US$ 799 untuk 64GB. Untuk model 3G, harga setiap kapasitasnya akan US$ 130 lebih mahal, yakni masing-masing US$ 629, US$ 729, dan US$ 829.

Selain iPad, Apple juga mengenalkan Ibooks yang memiliki kemampuan membaca e-book. Aplikasi Ibooks menayangkan rak buku 3D virtual dengan contoh-contoh yang bisa dilihat sebelum Anda membelinya.

Core i7 iMacs showing up DOA -- including ours

Apple's new Core i7-based iMac might be a performance monster, but it looks like the whole family's having some problems getting out of the gate: in addition to the previously-noted performance issues with the Core 2 Duo models, a quick glance across Apple's support forums and on other Mac boards around the web reveals that some machines are showing up DOA and / or with cracked screens. We're a little more familiar with the DOA issue, since the new i7 we just bought doesn't boot at all, but the cracked screen issue seems to be equally common and mostly affecting the bottom left corner, from what we can tell. Now, our review Core 2 Duo 27-inch iMac is perfectly fine, and Chris Ziegler's new Core i7 machine doesn't have any problems either, so these obviously aren't universal issues, but if you're about to stick one of these under the tree for someone it might be wise to do some surreptitious testing first.

Tantang Apple, HP Kembangkan Notebook Musik

JAKARTA, RABU - Ini dia kabar yang menggembirakan bagi pencinta notebook HP yang juga suka mendengarkan musik. HP telah bermitra dengan produsen headphone Beats Electronics - didirikan oleh rapper dan produser Dr. Dre dan chairman Interscope Geffen A&M Records Jimmy Iovine - untuk mengembangkan notebook high-end yang dioptimalkan untuk memperdengarkan musik.

"Ketika Dre dan I bersatu di Beats, idenya adalah memperbaiki pengantaran suara antara para pembuat rekaman dan konsumen," kata Iovine. "Kami sadar bahwa dengan adanya revolusi digital, suara menjadi tergradasi, padahal itu merupakan jantung dari musik. Kami mendapatkan bahwa kebanyakan PC menurunkan kualitas suara sampai tingkat yang tidak dapat diterima dan ketika Anda menurunkannya lagi ke platform yang terbatas, seperti MP3, musik tidak punya peluang sedikit pun."

Apple reconsiders rejected iPhone apps, C64 emulator on the way?

We're always a little hesitant to get too optimistic about changes to the App Store approval process, but it looks like there's been a few hopeful changes to the way things are done in the past few days, which could well lead to some previously rejected apps becoming available. Perhaps the most encouraging sign is that Apple seems to actually be going back through rejected apps and contacting develops to resubmit their app (without any changes, mind you) for an "expedited review." One such app is the Start Mobile Wallpaper Gallery, which was rejected for using Shepard Fairey's famous "HOPE" image of Barack Obama on the grounds that it "ridicules public figures." In other App Store news, the developer of the officially-licensed C64 emulator also says that it was contacted by a senior director at Apple, who reportedly said that there was "BIG news coming," but didn't elaborate any further. But, really, is there any news bigger than a C64 emulator?

Apple to Preview iPhone 3.0 Next Week

The iPhone is set to get a face lift. Apple will show off a new version of the iPhone operating system, iPhone 3.0, on March 17, along with a new version of the phone’s software development kit.

While details are scanty, iPhone 3.0 could include features such as universal search, multimedia messaging and an updated user interface.

Apple will unveil the new OS and SDK at a media event for reporters and bloggers at Apple’s Cupertino, California, campus at 10 a.m. Pacific time next Tuesday.

"In the past two weeks Apple has introduced new Mac hardware and a new iPod shuffle, for which the company simply issued a press release," Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster says in a note. "The fact that Apple is hosting an event for the iPhone OS 3.0 shows that it will likely involve meaningful changes to the iPhone feature set."

The software preview event could also be a sign that an iPhone refresh is coming this summer. Version 2.0, the last big upgrade to the iPhone OS, was released in July last year, along with the new iPhone 3G.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs will likely be a no-show at the company’s event, but Apple won’t let that hold it back. In January, Jobs said he will take five months off for medical leave. In his place, it’s possible that marketing head Phil Schiller, who keynoted at Macworld, will lead the event; iPhone software chief Scott Forstall is also a likely candidate.

Some bloggers and analysts have been suggesting that Apple will launch a new version of the iPhone at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. But new hardware will require an updated SDK and possibly a new version of the operating system. Those speculations align well with Apple’s planned event next week.

Among the features that users can expect with the new iPhone OS are multimedia messaging and tethering via Bluetooth and USB, according to the Boy Genius Report. Universal search and a redesigned user interface are also possible, says Piper Jaffray’s Munster.

Palm, which is set to release the Palm Pre phone in the next few months, will have universal search as one of its significant features. Universal search allows users to look through the contacts, e-mails and documents on their phone as well as search the internet with a single search string.

Apple’s last enhancement to the iPhone software came in November 2008, when it offered Version 2.2. The update offered features such as Google Street Views, improvements to e-mail, and measures to reduce dropped calls.

Koleksi Gadget Terbaru dari Apple!

Selain meluncurkan iPod Touch, Apple pada tanggal 5 September 2007

kemarin juga mengumumkan sederet koleksi iPod terbaru. Koleksi ini meliputi iPod Classic 160GB, iPod Nano dengan video, dan beberapa pilihan warna baru untuk iPod Shuffle.
Primadona pada hari itu adalah iPod Touch, sebuah inovasi terbaru dari Apple yang mengambil disain dari iPhone dan menerapkannya dalam bentuk iPod. Namun, selain iPod Touch, Apple juga mengumumkan beberapa update pada koleksi iPod Nano dan iPod Video atau yang sekarang sudah di-rebrand menjadi iPod Classic.

iPod Nano yang merupakan seri compact dari iPod kini dapat memutar video. Dengan feature tersebut, iPod Nano sekarang dapat memutar acara TV, film, dan juga video podcast. Dengan dimensi bentuk yang semakin diperlebar (ukuran screen sebesar 320x240 pixel), para pengguna dapat menikmati playback video dengan lebih nyaman. Menurut klaim Apple, iPod Nano ini dapat menjalankan video selama 5 jam non-stop ataupun memainkan file audio selama 24 jam non-stop.

iPod Nano ini tersedia dalam dua model: 4GB ($149) dan 8 GB ($199).

iPod Classic merupakan nama terbaru dari seri iPod video dari Apple. Pada versi terbarunya ini, Apple merilis iPod Classic dengan dimensi bentuk yang lebih tipis, interface baru, dan juga menyediakan pilihan kapasitas penyimpanan yang lebih besar yaitu 80GB dan 160GB.

Dengan kapasitas besar tersebut, iPod Classic cocok digunakan bagi mereka yang memiliki koleksi lagu dalam jumlah besar. Menurut klaim dari Apple, iPod Classic dapat menyimpan hingga 40.000 lagu. Sayangnya, Apple tetap menggunakan hard-disk sebagai tempat penyimpanan iPod Classic dan belum berpindah pada solusi berbasis flash memory.

iPod Classic 80GB dibanderol dengan harga $249 dan $399 untuk versi 160GB.

Selain kedua produk di atas, Apple juga merilis koleksi warna terbaru untuk seri iPod Shuffle buatannya. Warna tersebut meliputi: hijau tua, hijau muda, merah, dan ungu.
